Love. Lust. Betrayal. Murder! Zombie Joe's Underground's world premiere production of Vanessa Cate's 1940's Film noir-inspired thriller about a relentless private eye's search for the killer of Hollywood's leading lady and the psychological web of deceit he uncovers.

I thought that I was sucked into a time-warp that spit me out in 1941. This play had all the elements of a classic film noir movie. The costumes, hairstyles, props, music---even the blood was amazingly real!

absolute_blackzju_pic_3.jpg - 126.71 Kb The characters looked like they had just stepped out of an old B&W film: Minnie Walters, the wide- eyed starlet with her first major film role; Frank Sparse, her meek, mild-mannered and rather clueless boyfriend; Minnie's supportive roommate Mabel Lindbrook; and let's not forget Jack Thompson, her handsome two-timing fiance'; film star and leading man Harvey Milestone (complete with pencil-thin mustache and tendency to over-act); his wife, powerful Hollywood socialite, Verna Meyers who pulls Harvey's strings; the cigarette smoking gumshoe private-eye who relentlessly follows his leads; Lt. Briggs, the short, sweaty, shoulder-holstered wise guy cop (the bad cop); Officer Campbell, his tall, note-scribbling yes-man partner (the good cop).

Welcome to the lush treacherous world of Noir-Theatre! The audience came to see a riveting B&W classic with all the suspense, thrills, pathos and mystery. Their expectations were exuberantly rewarded.

All that was missing were the buttered popcorn and the stale Jujubes!

This tasty morsel, written and directed by Vanessa Cate, and produced by NoHo's very own Zombie Joe, kicks off the 2012 season from Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre Group. Don't miss out on this one.

You know what they say .... "If you snooze, you lose!"
