Our anonymous artist.....
What is clear is that architects are not artists in the traditional meaning of the word. Architects can be artistic but what they must conform to are standards and measures established by government and trade organizations. For this reason, architects must be licensed in order to do their work and can be sued if their work is unsafe or harmful to people.
What percentage of artists i.e. painters, sculptors, etc., maintain liability insurance or are required to use a certain size canvas to avoid harm to the public? My question is why architects are so well respected in the community and artists in many circles are considered to lack ambitious circles. Maybe art needs to be judged by the individual and all art curators, art scholars,_______ should give that right/courtesy to the individual enjoying the piece of art whether it be a building, sculpture, painting or any style or medium.
In NoHo, I have seen many ugly buildings that to me completely lack any artistic expression. The worse example is the "Gateway to NoHo" which many locals still complain about how the structure does not represent NoHo.
If architects are considered artist then us artists have been very underpaid for the last few centuries.
The staff at nohoartsdistrict.com did some research and found a few interesting architectural designs. Please email us any buildings in NoHo that show some artistic substance.
