On November 13, let's take time to celebrate World Kindness Day. This holiday began in 1998 on the first day of the Japan World Kindness Movement conference on November 13. It is now celebrated worldwide. In 2009, an organization in Singapore set up shopping carts along the streets filled with daisies. They freely gave out 45,000 daisies and they only asked for a smile. Let's show Singapore and the rest of the world what Los Angeles can do.
Acts of Kindness:
For a loved one
- What is something you have promised to do but never got around to it...DO IT
- Send a note telling your loved one how special they are...try creating a poem
- Bring flowers or cookies you baked to their work
- Whip up their favorite dish and leave it at the door (ring the doorbell and hide)
For a stranger
- Give up your shaded table at Pitfire Pizza
- When on a subway, give up your seat to someone frail
- Burn some calories and give up your bar stool at The Federal Bar
- With a smile say hello to 10 strangers
- Put a quarter in an expired meter
For a Pet
- Take your dog out to one of NoHo's many dog friendly outdoor cafes for a nice dinner
- For your cat, spend 30 minutes playing with them with a new toy
- If you don't have a pet, this is a reminder to go to the local animal shelter to get the best friend you will ever have!
