GoodWill Workouts

NoHo based Personal Fitness Trainers Jack Witt and Nancy Sexton have one thing in common besides making people sweat and breath heavy...they enjoy giving back to the community. Their up-coming boot-camp style outdoor exercise class called "GoodWill Workouts" will merge fitness and community together to benefit the UCNH Jaycees, a local leadership and development organization that runs charity events and projects throughout the year.

CUTTING DOWN ON PROCESSED FOOD

It's everywhere! To your left..to your right..straight ahead..and right behind you: Processed Foods. Cheap to manufacture, easy and quick and addictive to eat, but causing disease, depression and obesity like nobody's business. This year, make it a point to wean yourself down from so much of it and you'll look and feel awesome! Here's how:

Does 3, 500 calories equal a pound?

It's been tossed around for years throughout the fitness industry, the notion that for every 3,500 calories you burn you'll lose a pound of fat. As a personal trainer, though, I often see people pushing through week after week of running, walking, lifting, whatever-workout designed specifically to reach that 3,500 calorie per week mark-only to weigh exactly the same when it's over. Argh, all that work and no results!

Can coffee get your Libidos a' Blazin'?

Mmmm...ahhhh....oohhhh....more...yes....that hot cup of coffee in the morning when you need to fire up your brain and energy for a productive day is one of life's necessities for many of us. But can coffee (or in general caffeine) help to fire up our sex drive for a productive evening in bed? Lets "undress" this subject.

Envy Nutrition - NoHo's Newest Health Store

The owner of Envy Nutrition in North Hollywood, Terri Jackson, doesn't have the typical health store owner background. She is actually a puppeteer by trade and has been in more than a dozen films and a ton of tv shows. In addition, she is a Disney artist, an Imagineer for 10 years, designing rides and attractions for Paris and Tokyo. But her real business passion is "Envy Nutrition" now located at 11135 Magnolia Blvd #170 in the NoHo Arts District.

Food Craving

So, you have a sweet tooth? Maybe you love munching on salty foods? The various kinds of foods that we crave and think about could mean that we have some emotions and feelings that we need to harness, understand, and control.

Meat: Could mean that you are angry.

Sweets: Might be a sign of depression

Ice Cream: Might mean that you are anxious

Salty Snacks: Could mean that you are stressed

Pasta: May signal loneliness or sexual frustration

Being in tune with yourself and your emotions is important. Make it a point to do at least 20 minutes of silent meditation per day. This helps us to pay attention to our mind-body, and be more in control of emotions and stressors that derail us from enjoying and getting the most fullfillment out of every day.
