With many kids acting classes to choose from, selecting the right one for your child can seem daunting.
Having been at one time a kids’ manager and later, a kid’s agent, parents often come to me for advice on choosing an acting class and with other questions about how Show Biz for kids works.
In regards to classes, one has to determine first whether the class is to be recreational or vocational, i.e., your kid wants to take an acting class for fun or your kid wants to be in commercials, film, TV or professional theatre - - which can also be fun, but is more involved and ultimately, more costly in both time and money.
The NoHo Arts District. Com Team has been a long time advocate of arts in education. Research consistently shows that the arts leverage student achievement and development far beyond raising test scores in reading and math. Participation in the arts build essential skills like innovation, creativity and critical thinkng. It keeps kids interested in school. Don't we need to decrease the 57% dropout rate in many of our high schools and save an at risk youth from a life of crime? Each of us can help a local North Hollywood youth have the benefits of arts programs.
Audrey M. Kids and adults love to take their picture with Halloween Pumpkins. North Hollywood, Toluca Lake, Studio City, Valley Village and families from all over the San Fernando Valley are celebrating autumn with a visit to the Haunted Pumpkin Patch-Haunted Maze and Petting Zoo in Toluca Lake.
October isn't complete without a family trip to an authentic pumpkin patch, and this one is photo-op heaven! You'll find everything from huge 150-pound pumpkins down to teeny gourds in weird colors.
The Haunted Maze (semi-scary during the day, spookier after dark)
The Petting Zoo (featuring goats, sheep, pigs, ducks and chickens) is a special favorite with children and adults.

Here’s yet another reason why North Hollywood folks deserve a round of applause, a snap with a twist. OK, NoHo, meet 11:59 Films who will present 52 Films in 52 Weeks. Three local filmmakers, Samantha Simmonds, Javier Ronceros and Renee Ronceros will write, direct, produce, shoot, edit and score a film every week for an entire year. There will be two surprise guest directors who will write and direct a few each, so stay tuned!
Mark your calendars, NoHo! On Saturday, October 1, North Hollywood will get it's very own Farmers Market. It will be open every Saturday from 8am to 2pm, year round, rain or shine, in the heart of the NoHo Arts District at 5200 Bakman (between Lankershim and Tujunga) at the corner of Magnolia, with street closure north to Weddington.

Jose Hernandez, a local NoHo resident, went to the Neighborhood Council with the idea of a kid/family friendly, sustainable Community Market that would not only provide fresh produce to our neighborhood but to bring our diverse community together. Jose's non-profit (which is sponsoring the event) is looking forward to giving back to the community with ideas such as FREE movie nights in the summer...refreshments included!
The Council voted unanimously to support the project, as the community had longed for a local market for many years. Jose asked Carol Wyner, Community Activist/Advocate to spearhead the project. Along with his life-long friend and business partner, Eddie Jimenez, the dream has finally come to fruition.
Being a Community Market, in addition to the usual Farmers Market fare of fresh organics, many multi-cultural prepared and pre-packaged food booths will share space with artists, crafters and local small businesses. There will be live music from California Pop and Jazz Council's seasoned vocalists and musicians, entertaining weekly. Additionally there will be a fabulous 10-piece Mirimba Band entertaining at the other end. Local musical artists will be welcome to rotate into the weekly calender, and many of our local non-profits will be there to spread awaremess of the many FREE services available to the community. A doggie sitting booth will also be available.
We are extremely grateful for the support of Mary Garcia, President of the Mid-town NoHo Neighborhood Council, Alice Roth of the office of Coucilmember Tom LaBonge, Katie of the NoHo Business Improvement District, Dino of NoHo Diner/Sittons, Ed Levy of The Federal Bar, Principlal Jose Razo of Lankershim Elementary, NohoArtsDistrict.com and our beloved local Police and Fire departments.
The objective of this Market is to provide community awareness, healthy food options, accessibility and family fun.
