When they are good…and believe me, Scotty Seed is good.
The tracks on this so called, “Single” EP progress from icy electronica to gorgeous, wild, witch house through dirty pulsing pop and oscillating grungy punk rock. It’s quite a mix, quite a ride and quite unexpectedly excellent.
Seed is a musician who has clearly immersed themselves in multiple genres. This kind of myriadic obsession with music has gifted him a sea of sounds to draw from. None of these songs are simple or straightforward. Each of them tumbles and shatters through their supposed genre until so tightly wound they spiral through our heads, imprinting and tattooing themselves on our minds. The beats are resounding and relentless, pulling us back again to the rhythm again.
I hear The Prodigy, Nirvana, Hole and lots and lots of pop, but only the good stuff. Seed is a master manipulator. These sounds cascade around the rhythms and the rhymes of his lyrics in terrifying echoes…brilliant.
It’s some kind of dance music, this wild and inspiring and wicked and purposeful. There are some lovely links to my past here too, a bit of Giorgio Moroder, Human League, Ultravox, Vangelis. But then I’m all about film music…maybe Scotty Seed should be also?
