How to Negotiate LAX with Ease

Airports have a habit of making travelers miserable.

From their overzealous security staff and seemingly endless queues to their weak Wi-Fi and confusing signs, these bustling travel hubs can easily squeeze the joy out of your trip before you’ve even set foot on an airplane.

In fact, even The Economist once concluded that US airports are “awful,” beset by “soggy pizza, surly security staff and endless queues.”

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Although security checks and getting hopelessly lost are often unavoidable, there are plenty of ways to take the pain out of making your way through LAX airport and onto your flight without bursting an important blood vessel.

Here’s how …

  1. Choose Airport Parking

We all know that traveling to the airport via public transport can be a logistical nightmare, as heavy luggage or screaming kids can make it the journey from hell—that’s why it’s often simpler to take your own vehicle and leave it at a nearby car park.

While it’s easy to imagine a dearth of parking spots available at a major airport like LAX, there’s plenty of choice for the discerning business traveller or holidaymaker.

The simplest and most convenient option is to pre-book your LAX parking spot through Looking4.com, an airport parking comparison service designed to find you the best deal and save you a whole load of hassle.

  1. Skip the Line at Check-In

There’s little worse than excitedly turning up for your holiday, only to be faced with a check-in queue that’s longer than a conga line full of millipedes. To avoid a situation like this, try to check-in online, which can usually be done 24 hours before your flight jets off.

If you’re a bit of a technophobe, however, try asking a member of staff at LAX to help you use the handy self-service facility within the terminal before leaving your bags (if you’re checking them in) at the airport’s drop off point.

  1. Avoid Queuing To Board

Some punctual folk prefer to make their way through security and immediately queue to board the plane. However, all this waiting around is unnecessary for a debonair traveller such as yourself, so wait until the last minute to board.

After all, you’ll almost always have an allocated seat on board and, unless you’re laughably late, the plane will not leave until all passengers are on board—and that means there’s plenty of time to browse the duty free, read the last few pages of your book, or make sure your kids use the toilet before the flight.

Of course, some areas of the airport lend themselves to hold-ups, but by following the tips above, you can make sure your next journey via LAX, and subsequent trips, is smoother than a penguin in a wetsuit.
