Hollywood and plastic surgery seem to go hand in hand. Ever since the golden age of film making, there has been a big plastic surgery scene. After all, stars are under huge pressure to look their best. But with cheaper options abroad, like a hair transplant in Turkey or a facelift in South Korea, is the city still a hub for plastic surgery?
Despite it being pretty obvious that just about every celebrity in Hollywood has gone under the knife at some point, it’s still rare for them to openly admit it. However, as plastic surgery becomes more socially acceptable, with a staggering 15.9 million cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the US in 2015, some celebrities are opening up about the work they have had done.
Singer Iggy Azalea spoke candidly about having a nose job in Seventeen magazine. She claimed that plastic surgery was “an emotional journey” and that it was equally hard to cosmetically change your flaws as it was to live with them. It’s not the first time the star has had surgery either. In April 2017, she had her breasts enlarged to stop her struggling to find costumes that fit.
Chrissy Teigen is another star that’s been open about the fact she’s had a ‘Hollywood makeover’. She laughed as she stated that all of her facial features were fake, except from her cheeks!
With so many celebrities starting to talk about the work they’ve had done, the number of plastic surgery procedures in Hollywood is only set to rise.
High Quality Surgeons
With such a high demand from the Hollywood giants for top procedures, it’s hardly surprising that some of the best plastic surgeons can be found in Los Angeles. Of the hundreds of plastic surgeons available in California, over 100 made the peer-rated ‘US News List of Top Doctors’ and 32 of these made the list of ‘Americas Top Doctors’, suggesting that Hollywood locals really do pay for quality when they visit some of the world’s most technologically advanced practices.
Despite the growing number of celebrities admitting to having work done, and the presence of some of the best surgeons in the world, medical tourism has seen a growing number of plastic surgery hotspots popping up around the world.
Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is home to some of the world’s top surgeons and clinics. The region is popular for medical tourists, who are looking for quality treatment at half the cost of American or European prices and, with luxury hotels in abundance, there are definitely worse places to recover! Approximately 500,000 cosmetic surgery treatments are carried out in the country each year and surgeons travel from around the world to train, so it’s clear that Rio is quickly becoming the world’s top destination for plastic surgery. Popular procedures include tummy tucks, face lifts and breast enhancements.
Aside from Rio de Janeiro, plenty of other countries are home to thriving cosmetic surgery industries. Turkey, South Korea and UAE are among those developing their healthcare facilities and providing top quality treatments at affordable prices. Hollywood may still be a hub for cosmetic surgery, particularly among the rich and famous, but it’s far from the only destination to be.
