What a time to be alive! 

In today’s world of technology and new information, cool and exciting experiences are practically on demand. At the click of a button, we have food, transportation, and products on the way to our homes. We are all so incredibly blessed to simply exist at this moment in time. However, one thing we continue to fail to recognize in this age of instant gratification is the plummet in our health. I will gladly go on record to say that our way of life is leading us to become more and more sedentary. Let’s look at some effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

A sedentary lifestyle is a type of lifestyle with little or no physical activity.

According to the World Health Organization, globally, one in four adults aren’t moving enough. On average, Americans sit 11 hours per day. The most alarming effect of being sedentary is an increase in the risk of cancer and heart disease. 43 different studies of more than four million people found that sedentary behavior significantly increases the risk for several types of cancer. The sedentary lifestyle also affects us mentally. Researchers have found psychological distress such as nervousness and restlessness to be the result of sitting for hours throughout the day. The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease found that adults who are sedentary are just as likely to develop dementia as people who are genetically predisposed to the condition. Here are some other proven effects of not moving enough; spike of blood sugar, slowed down sex life, less quality of sleep, and increase in back pain. Shall I go on?

The answer to this problematic way of living is simple. Move More. Research has found that people who workout just one or two days per week are 40 percent less likely to die from heart disease and 18 percent less likely to die from cancer. There is absolutely no excuse for being sedentary if you are capable of moving. This is our health and well-being we are talking about. Even just a walk around the block is better than nothing. We all know that being active is essential for good health, so why aren’t we moving?

The truth of the matter is this; if we don’t have our health, we will not be able to do what we want to do in life. Sadly, on our quest through life, we get so distracted that we forget how important our health is. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to die from heart disease or cancer. I close with a final alarming statistic. 20% of all deaths of people 35 and older are attributed to a lack of physical activity.

Connor Coman

Connor Coman works as a certified personal trainer in the Hollywood/Beverly Hills area. His training experience stems from a background in competitive gymnastics, track & field, and collegiate baseball. 

Learning from trainers and coaches since a young age, Coman's daily life became influenced by structured nutrition and exercise regimens at the age of 15. When competitive sports came to an end after studying nutrition & exercise science at Queens College in New York, Coman continued the path of health and wellness by becoming a certified personal trainer.

After months of training in New York, he switched coasts and began personal training at Golds Gym Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA. In his fifth month, he was named Personal Trainer of the Month. Coman spent a year training a wide range of clientele at Golds Gym before being inspired to start his own personal training business.

Today, he trains mostly out of Ultra Body Fitness, an exclusive private training gym in Hollywood. Focusing on weight training in the gym, his client list includes both men and women, celebrity, and elderly. Coman continues to learn as he, himself, has a personal trainer, Charles Glass. Glass is known as the "Godfather" of personal training. 

Coman believes that there is one common goal among exercisers and that is "to lose body fat." He states that this can be done by first "making a true commitment to oneself to take the necessary steps in order to gain control of one's physical health." Those steps include "cardiovascular training, resistance training, and above all, proper nutrition."

Coman has recently found a new passion in writing and acting. He now uses his background, knowledge, and experience in the field of training to stay sharp on his path towards his goals in the entertainment industry.
