What I Like About This Room

Over the last three years I’ve written about many things. From organizing tips to the next big color to designing with one color. But now I thought I would do something a little different. For the next few articles I want to show you some designs I really like and explain why.

1. Fresh towels. Adding a new set of towels will certainly update and make your bathroom feel new and fun. You don’t need a whole new set of towels, I talking about adding some on the towel rack for display, or just a few hand towels to dress up the counter or bar.

Many times in the past I’ve worked with clients who were really, really afraid of color.  They were secure using whites and beiges; hence white walls and beige carpet throughout the entire house.  For me, a little more interest is needed in the design scheme.  To solve that issue, I add textured fabrics to the plan.

So many times I’m asked about inexpensive ways to create a custom headboard.  I tell my clients its pretty simple actually and all depends on the overall look you want to achieve.  If you want a simple headboard with interest, then why not try an antique door mounted to the wall.  They come in many sizes and finishes depending on the year.  Locate an antique architectural salvage yard in your area and start looking.  You’ll be surprised what you’ll find.  You can sand, prime and paint if you like or leave it a little rustic.

Over the course of my career, I’ve seen my share of drapery dilemmas.  Some were hung too high while others were hung too low, too wide or not at all.  Here are a few easy tips for hanging at the appropriate height.

Many people today have downsized to a smaller space for one or more reasons. But that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your design style. For some this would present a challenge, but lets look at it as an opportunity to be creative and shine.
