When you are Fat, it can be easy to blame your body as the source of your unhappiness. We spend a lot of time reminding ourselves of the reasons why we are not good enough and fantasize about how our lives would be better if we were different. Though we may not be able to defeat these thoughts completely, we can continuously work to change them.
It would be wonderful if we constantly felt happy and loved our bodies, but that’s not realistic for most of us. Some days, you’re going to feel like crap. When those days come, here are 5 body positive affirmations to tell yourself:
1. I HAVE ONE BODY AND IT DOES AMAZING THINGS.
Even when your body isn’t as good at performing as others, you have to sit back and appreciate the fact that your body constantly fights for your survival, even under extreme circumstances. Your body is your no. 1 advocate because you are still alive! You and your body may have a love/hate relationship with each other, but it still works every day to try and keep you alive as best as it can. Thank your body for doing its best!
2. I AM ON A LIFE JOURNEY WITH MY BODY AND I WANT TO BEFRIEND IT.
You go through life the same way you entered – you and your body. It is one of the strongest relationships you will ever cultivate. Why not make it a positive one? Sometimes, it is easier to think of your body objectively and treat it almost as if it were another person. After all, would you talk to your best friend’s body as your talk to your own? Your body is your friend, so treat it like you would a friend. Give it the benefit of the doubt, take it on vacation, let it be happy!
3. IT’S NOT ABOUT LOOKING MY BEST; IT’S ABOUT FEELING MY BEST.
The main reason you want to look your best is so that you can feel your best – why not cut to the chase and start to feel your best first? A lot of the time, we get caught up on looking a certain way, having hips like Kim Kardashian, arms like Michelle Obama, or whatever your idea of perfection may be. By thinking like this, we are setting ourselves up for failure. After all, our bodies are unique to us with their own strengths and weaknesses. Instead of focusing on the external, try to focus on the internal and improve how you feel about yourself.
4. I CHOOSE TO LOVE AND ACCEPT MY BODY.
Some people are naturally inclined to love and accept their body. Like many, I am not one of those people. Every day, I have to wake up and remind myself that I love my body and accept it for all its positives and negatives. If you’re like me, you have to choose to feel good about yourself to make it through the day. Give your body some much-needed love!
5. WHEN I SHAME MY BODY, I FORGIVE MYSELF AND MOVE FORWARD.
Old habits die hard. If you have been talking to yourself negatively about all the things you want to change or hate about your body, you are not going to fix that mentality overnight. You will slip up. It happens. The best thing you can do is to make sure you catch yourself spiraling. When you catch yourself thinking negatively, stop yourself and come from a place of understanding. Acknowledge the fact that you have these negative thoughts but forgive yourself, move forward, and replace the negative thoughts with positive ones.
